The Learning Management System’s Journey: From Traditional E-Learning to Gamer’s Delight

June 30, 2009 by Larry Palmer · Comments Off
Filed under: Video Games
by Marshall Bailey

While the economic downturn becomes graver and companies search for more affordable training systems, many turn to online training and learning management systems to meet training needs.

And LMS systems are becoming more sophisticated with the increase in demand. In some ways, LMSs are starting to look more game-like in their interactive and fun-to-use features.

E-learning software and virtual worlds with interfaces like games are making their way into institutions and organizations. Many organizations have already implemented or plan to adopt such software into their LMS e-learning solutions.

Based on the popularity of virtual worlds, it may not be a bad idea. EMarketer estimates that 24 percent of the 34.3 million million users under 19 years old participated in a virtual world at least monthly in 2007, a figure that is predicted to jump to 53 percent by 2011. As people become more familiar with virtual world navigation, these online skills, interactions and roles will translate more easily into a professional or educational setting.

For many people, the concept of incorporating a virtual world in a training course seems impractical or unrealistic. But more institutions and organizations worldwide have begun to explore the pedagogical and training possibilities that virtual worlds offer.

Virtual worlds permit learners to perform tasks that may be impossible in the real world due to conditions or situations involving personal, geographical or other limitations.

A student using a virtual world can access media such as simulations, videos, and instructional demos provided by an instructor or trainer. In the form of an avatar, students can perform tasks to reveal understanding of learning material as well as interact with their peers.

Covering various topics from dental lessons to frog dissections, there are "serious game" virtual worlds available.

When integrated correctly, software like LMSs and "serious game" virtual worlds can provide students with the means to engage in the material to a point at which traditional e-learning courses never could. With a feature-rich LMS, students have access to audio and visual information in the form of simulations, screen recordings, podcasts, and more.

The bad news is that the majority of "serious games" on the market are either too expensive for many company budgets, or have a long way to go in terms of sophistication. But despite the slow development of virtual worlds for professional use, e-learning software continues to expand in learning management systems and other online tools, as they become more interactive to compete in an increasingly exciting e-learning market.

The Legerndary Galaxy Arcade Game

If you aren't a vintage arcade video games collector, you'd probably think that Pong was the first ever arcade video game that was ever created. You'd be sadly mistaken, however. The first arcade game that was ever created was called Galaxy in 1971.

We know live in a world where online games are really popular. These are multi player games which can be played both on the PC and in the home consoled. Online games are played all over the world, with levels of difficulty ranging all the way from beginning to advanced.

There are many online games, ranging from classic arcade games to casino games to online multiplayer role-playing games (RPGs), and many of these are even available free. A unique aspect to role-playing games is the real time environment they inhabit- even after you sign out, other gamers continue playing, which means that when you log back in the game may look completely different from when you left it.

There are also some sites that charge to play. These sites often give points for winning, which can later be exhanged for prizes. At one such site, www.pogo.com, there is an added bonus to winning, because you earn tokens for winning games, and you can later trade in these tokens for a chance to win in a random drawing.

You'll also notice that several role paying games give extra benefits who pay for using their services. Take a look at a role playing game like Runescape. The games allows paid players to have extra access to weapons win which they normally would not have had, if they weren't paying for the priviladge. Also, as games get more widely popular, you can rest assured that these video games will eventually look more realistically than they do already.

On March 27, 2007, Uno became the first game to be downloaded over a million times. This popularity has paralleled the growing number of console downloads, which on March 6, 2007 reached 25 million downloads. Many of the games downloaded are both arcade classics and games made into arcade games.

However, arcade games are not the only ones that are available to be downloaded. For example you will also see that many online games are also classic sports games such as tthe famous Madden football series. There are players participating all over the world.

As you would expect, both online and console games have additional content which users can download. For instance the newer games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero allow players to download new songs which can be used to play in the game.

The Ultimate Xbox 360 Accessories!

When you first purchase your Xbox 360 console, everything you require it included in the package, such as, a controller, cables, and etcetera. Of course this means you can go right ahead and start gaming without any delays. Of course, if you were fortunate enough to purchase the Xbox 360 Elite, then you were no doubt even more thrilled because it would have come with a few extras, such as some great games. All you needed was a TV, and of course, if you have an HDTV then your gaining experience will be that much more pleasurable.

If you're serious about taking your gaming experience to the next level then you need to realize that a TV is not the only extra you will need. As you may well already know there are numerous accessories available for the Xbox 360. While some have been specifically designed to improve the gaming experience, others have been designed for improving and expanding the capabilities of the Xbox 360 in general. Of course, because some of these accessories are manufactured by third party companies, not all of them live up to the claims made by the manufacturers. If you're serious about your gaming, then you may want to try some of the accessories mentioned below.

The Xbox 360 comes with only one wireless controller no matter what edition you get. This means that for you to play cooperative or competitive games on a single system, you will need to get additional controllers. Whether they are wired or wireless, the Xbox 360 can only handle up to 4 controllers, so be sure you get as much as you need.

Of course, as you can well imagine, it's always better to purchase the original controllers which are available in either black or white. Being original controllers, they've been designed with quality in mind and even more important, they're also compatible with Microsoft Windows computers.

While the controllers are able to operate the Xbox 360 interface completely, you can be rest assured that your life will be much easier if you get the universal media remote, particularly if you use your Xbox 360 as a digital media system on a frequent basis. Furthermore, not only can the remote operate several TV's but it can also be used for any computers which are powered by Windows Media Center. In fact, because it has all the regular buttons, the remote can also be used for playing games.

Many people love to play their Xbox 360 online with others and a majority of those gamers love to chat too so Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 Messenger Kit alongside the Windows Live Messenger for the Xbox 360. The kit comes with the Chatpad that is ideal for quick messaging and is great for people that do not have a USB keyboard or do not have the space to set up one.

It also comes with a wired headset that conveniently connects to the Chatpad so that you can voice chat with others during gameplay or take advantage of games that have voice recognition support. There is also a wireless headset too if you do not need the Chatbox.

There are other nice accessories that you can find on the Xbox website as well. When choosing accessories, it is always best to get the ones that are officially licensed by Microsoft.

Which Is Better Nintendo DS Or Sony PSP

June 25, 2009 by Paul Wilcox · Leave a Comment

by Paul Wilcox

Sega Game Gear? Ha! It was about as much a challenge to the reigning king in its day, the Nintendo Gameboy, as a beer league football team would be against the Steelers. Fact is, Nintendo has been pretty much unchallenged in the handheld gaming arena since the original Gameboy, continuing right through to the DS.

Until now, that is.

With this generation of portable video gaming consoles, the Nintendo DS is facing stiff and unwavering competition from the Sony Playstation Portable, or PSP for brevity. The battle isn't really neck-to-neck, but the Sony PSP is winning in certain regions in the world, something that Nintendo never had to endure with its previous handhelds. Surely, the Nintendo DS must realize that the Sony PSP wouldn't just vanish in the night like the defeated Sega Game Gear.

The question that many people are asking - especially people planning to buy a portable gaming system - is this: Is the Sony PSP a better investment than the Nintendo DS?

Let's answer this important question by breaking it down into 4 important sub-questions that will ultimately tell us the handheld that will define this generation of portable gaming.

1. Which console is more powerful? There's really no contest here. The Sony PSP was designed to be a powerful unit, with two 333MHz CPUs rendering both gameplay and amazing graphics. The screen is built for widescreen gaming, and has a much better resolution than the DS. PSP games take more space as well, because there is so much more to them. Most Nintendo games are under 100MB. PSP games range from 300MB to 1.5GB. WINNER: Sony PSP.

2. Which unit has more available games? Many people believe that software creates hardware, rather than the reverse. After all, what good is an extremely powerful handheld if there are no games available for it? When it comes to the size of the games library, the Nintendo DS is the obvious winner. Its games library is almost 4 times bigger than the PSP's. Many companies develop games strictly on the DS. WINNER: Nintendo DS.

3. Which system has better multimedia capabilities? Many of today's gadgets perform specialized functions. Ipods play music.

PDAs allow mobile browsing and data mining. Digital cameras take pictures and videos. Cellular phones serve as personal organizers aside from being communication devices. However, the trend these days is for a gadget to at least attempt to become a Swiss knife of sorts for the technology-crazy market.

Handheld game systems are no different. The more they can do, the more attractive they are to potential buyers. The DS has limited audio and video playback functions. The Sony PSP can handle many audio formats and can play MP4 videos as well. It can also surf the web, watch TV (with a TV tuner add-on), store data, and even act as a remote control for a Playstation 3. WINNER: Sony PSP.

4. Which console has more exclusives? No doubt, not a single company can compete with Nintendo. The Nintendo DS is the home of original properties like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon , Donkey Kong, Kirby, Animal Crossing and many more. These are the biggest selling points of the system. WINNER: Nintendo DS.

So we're tied, 2-2. Which system is better: the Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP? It really depends on what you expect from the handheld machine. If you're going for functionality and raw power, then choose the Sony PSP. But if you're looking for a memorable, an exciting, and most importantly, a varied gaming experience, then the Nintendo DS is a better choice.

Secret #1 - Blacksmithing

One of the secrets to making big money on an ongoing basis with the Blacksmithing professions is to make items that need renewing. By doing this you will eventually have an ongoing flow of revenue. Use your disenchanting ability to make high end materials that can be sold to other Enchanters.

Secret #3 - Engineering

Like Blacksmithing, the best things to make as an Engineer are the items which are regularly used. Bomb's, Explosives, and Fireworks and great examples of these.

Secret #4 - Small Pet Vendors

Discover How To Copy Wii Games Now – It’s Easy!

by Cam Halladay

The popularity of the Nintendo Wii is something which has never been seen before in the world of gaming. The system works like no other and it shouldn't shock anyone that there is a lot of interest in copying Wii games to make backups in case of damage or loss of the original game discs.

These games typically come in the form of a disc which looks like any other CD ? but they cannot be as copied as easily as a music CD. The process is a little more complicated; keep reading for some tips on copying Wii games and a guide on when you should and should not back up a given Wii game disc.

Your usual burning software can't copy your Wii games the same way you'd burn a CD. Roxio, Nero, and other popular burning programs just can't copy these disks. That's because there's encoded copy protection on the disk that keeps your computer from being able to make sense of it.

Of course, like most copy protection, it didn't take long for someone to come up with a workaround. There are programs available that can read through the copy protection that comes on a Wii disc.

When you have this softeware, copying Wii games becomes a relatively simple process. Your computer will now be able to read the copy protected data on the disc. It's not just Wii discs which can be read using this type of software, but also Xbox 360 and PS3 games.

Many games made for PCs also use encryption which can be cracked with this software. If you have multiple gaming systems, you can use this software to make backups of these games as well as your Wii games.

Once you have the necessary software to break the encryption on the disc, you can copy the game to your hard drive as a disk image. Then you can burn a discussing this image just as you would with any other, using the CD burning software of your choice.

Often, burning and copying functions are included in the decryption program, so you won't need to resort to your regular burners at all. This reduces the chances of an error when ripping and burning the disk.

The copying programs that are now available make it possible to copy Wii games without having to do anything but click a few buttons. Copying Wii games is a great way to make a backup copy of any game you want. It never hurts to have a backup in the case that the original gets lost or damaged. Enjoy!

Finding Anime Is Tough Unless You Know About Shikunai.

This is a website owned by Sinco Nara himself. We have everything set up so that it revolves around anime. The main 3 anime's it concentrate's on are Bleach, Naruto, and Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom hearts is a basis of manga and not just the game in itself. The content is mostly about kingdom hearts. They take kingdom hearts to a level of liking it and not obsessing about it....

Naruto is a well known anime that touched the hearts of our RP (Role Playing) members. It has villages to ingage yourself in a lot of role playing an other activities with other members. Sinco on the other hand doesn't like the main character of Naruto but prefers Yondaime Uzamaki.

Bleach is also a well known anime that they stress to add but never got around to, as a member u can ask for anything to be added, so this isn't a problem. Ichigo is a cool main character for the series and manga and so we didn't make him a mod account, u can take it, no numbers needed...if its still available. Also all other people of the bleach characters of the series may be available so feel free to use them.

Moderators on the site are there to help you if you need anything. They are well educated beyond most of the members and that's good because if you have any detailed questions they can most likely answer it for you. The moderators were once normal users just like you so if you want to become a moderator all you have to do is show some dedication and then you can get a trial mod run.

Administrators are people just like you and me. They are more advanced mods in terms. they can edit the site as well as ban people. They are also there to answer any questions if you need to ask one. Administrators are usually very busy so you will not see them as much as the moderators.

Role playing is a favorite pass time to Sinco Nara. So he put a lot of choices and for serious role players, dices in there. Its not a top basis idea but he tries to role play with at least one person a day, just to keep up the fun.

Sinco loves RPG's so much that he will soon be making his own RPG built into the site. The RPG might be text base but it could be 3d, it depends on how long it will take to build and how much it will cost.

If you wanna be a moderator on his site, there are limited spots. Administrator seats are also available at the moment. Administrator seats will be handled only by Sinco himself.
